Angela Barker-Lewis Owner / Director
Combining my passion for dance with my devotion to teaching means that I get to do what I truly love every day! I am so lucky that I have had the pleasure of working with countless students of all levels and ages- from 2 years to 80 young, each one brings me joy!
Whether I am teaching a chassè to a group of 4 year old’s, by pretending one foot is a mouse and the other a cat “chasing” their heel, working with a pair of advanced dancers on the “fish-dive” (a partnered lift), or seeing how fast my intermediate Tap students and I can do “time steps” to the music, I am appreciative and happy to be with them. I am grateful to all the parents as well, who can see the immense value of dance classes and support their children’s dreams.
I first started taking dance classes at the age of three. When I was eight years old, I began learning at Sylvan Dance Studio in Citrus Heights. At the age of ten, I began taking classes at Barbara Crockett’s studio (now called Deane Dance Center) in Carmichael; it was there, I took Open Classes and was trained in multiple methods such as, Royal Academy of Dance (RAD), Cecchetti, and Vaganova. I was quickly inspired to seek an education involving children and later to pursue dance cultivation and the dream of owning a studio someday.
While attending California State University, Chico (CSUC) with a major in Psychology and minor in Child Development, I continued to dance with and choreograph for CSUC Dance Team all four years. Performing at Chico Dance Theatre, attending community performances, dancing at sporting events, competitions and putting on independent full shows.
In 2011, after I started a family, I came back to my roots in the Citrus Heights area and began teaching for Citrus Heights Dance Academy (CHDA) where I created and managed the pre-Ballet division and slowly took on an increasing role in the office and as an instructor. In the summer of 2016, I was promoted to Co-Director of CHDA, leading the Ballet Company and Apprentice Company, directing and accomplishing shows in their entirety. In 2019, I expanded my Ballet education by attending the Cecchetti USA Summer Program where I received intensive teacher training. I also attended training in San Jose, for Progressing Ballet Technique, completing a PBT Certification.
Opening Première School of Dance is the fulfillment of my lifelong established dream and a huge part of my heart’s desire finally materialized! I am incredibly excited to share this tradition of love and dance, for a healthy lifestyle with all of you!
